We go over to my best friend's house every other Tuesday for a great dinner and some great fellowship. Tammy and I have been friends since high school so it's fun to see our boys becoming good friends. The dog is Lacey, their Doberman Pinscher. She is a very sweet dog who loves to play.

Wow, I have neglected this site for sure. I have been off work for the past week and have enjoyed my time as a normal person and sleeping at night and up during the day :0) I LOVE my job though. Being a nurse is the 2nd best profession in the world (1st being a mother).

I signed up for 2 overtime days (tonight and tomorrow) this week so I have to go and take a nap to be ready for work.

Wow, it's been a long time since I've updated this blog mostly because I'm so into Facebook now. Christmas this year was at mom and dad's new house. It was a lot of fun. I got put on call on Christmas Eve so I actually got to spend time with the family and wake up early with Justin. That was nice :0)

Justin has been SO excited all year for this time to come. Boot camp at Fort Lewis with the Sea Cadets. Eddie and I, of course, are excited for him but also are missing him SO much this week. We know that he's having a blast though and can't wait for our "one phone call home." It can't come too soon for us :0) We love you Justin and are praying for you this week.

Well, the time has finally come. I'm officially done with my precepting and the only thing that I have left is Candle-lighting and that's on Tuesday, March 17th at 6pm (yup, St. Patrick's Day). I did my precepting at Cascade Valley Hospital and plan on applying there and Skagit Valley Hospital. We'll see what plans God has for me now :0)

We went on a friendship walk with our walking group to Whatcom Falls. We got snowed on when we were almost to Bellingham this day but by the time we were walking, we had nothing but sunshine until we were almost back to our car then it started snowing again.

Happy New Year (2009 already) everyone. They say that what ever you do on New Year's you'll be doing all year. Well, for the second year in a row, we decided that we wanted to do one of our hikes/walks on New Year's Day. We were going to go up to Rockport and take pictures of all the eagles along the river....but, the closer we got, the more snow on the ground. We decided that we'd had enough of the snow and turned around to walk in Anacortes. Enjoy the pictures.

The second best thing about Winter as a kid is a snow day....yay, no school and just play. Well, I still love the first day of snow while there's snow on the ground. Now that I'm an adult, I don't like it when it turns to ice and the hill that we live on holds onto that ice for several days later. If you tell me that we're going to take a hike/walk, then I'm there. Next Christmas, I want my family to get snowshoes (Hint, Hint Babe). I've recently seen where they have guided tours too. Fun, Fun!!! Justin and I decided to take the sled and we were going to go down the big hill of Montecello. A couple days ago when it snowed, they had that side closed down. We were hoping that it was closed down today so we could play, but it wasn't. We walked all the way to the top the the hill though and saw one car struggling to come up it (it's SO steep, yikes). We were able to find a hill that Justin was able to sled/snowboard down.

Capitol Volksmarch in Olympia

Well, it's officially the first day of my month off and I have to cram all the fun that I can into it before it time to hit the books again. So, today we went to Olympia for a Capitol Volksmarch. It was a lot of fun and didn't start until 3pm. The walk took us into the Legistlative building. It was beautiful both inside and out. One thing that I love pictures of is the architectural designs of buildings. The inside of the building was marble floors, walls, ceiling, steps, etc. Wow. Then the walk took us through town and to the waterfront with there was a parade of Christmas lights on yachts. Some people went all out. It was another 10k (6.2 miles) walk and it was a lot of fun but it's always nice when done too :0)

Well, today was my final and I passed. It's bittersweet though because my good friend and study partner didn't. I am very sad about that. But, God is going to work big things in her life and she deserves it after the year she's had. So I'm onto my last quarter (preceptorship) in the nursing program.

My outside experience for my 5th quarter of nursing is Hospice. In the beginning of the quarter, we were told that we had the option of going around with a Home Health nurse or a Hospice nurse. My first thought when I heard that was that I was DEFINITELY signing up for the Home Health day because I have a tendency to wear my heart on my sleeve. You know, it's funny how it doesn't go by my plan....but Gods. Well, God decided that I should go with a Hospice nurse. We were told that we were going to sign up for Hospice since it's in Skagit and our clinicals were at Skagit Valley Hospital. Ok God, I know you have big plans for me :0) Well, my Hospice clinical experience is today and I have to say that I'm looking forward to my day. I think that as a nurse, I have a different light because I'm in the role of helping people. Helping them to not be in pain and helping them in any and all ways that I can. Hopefully that makes since.

Pacific Fabric Class

Mom and I signed up for a "knitting club" at Pacific Fabrics. We go once a month on Friday night to Pacific Fabrics in Everett for 1 year. We work on one project from 101 Designer one-skein Wonders each month. September was a lacey hat (learning lacing), October was a pair of mittens with cable stitching (I like cable stitching), and November was a monster bear or a bowl (learning the concept of felting). It's been a lot of fun and since it's a one-skein project, so far I've been able to finish the projects.

Nursing 202

Well, today is my first day of my 5th quarter of nursing school. I've had a really good Summer. I mostly played in July and then in August I did a lot of overdue items at home. We painted our house, went through a lot and took several trips to Goodwill, etc. Now, it's that time again. I'm a little nervous this morning, mostly of the unknown but knowing that it's a little bit harder this quarter. I'm also feeling this way because I know that my social life is over for a while again. My time will be consumed with open books, writing papers, and going to school and clinicals at the hospital. At the same time, I'm very excited because we have 16 days at the hospital this quarter (I love the clinicals) and one day with a home health care nurse or hospice nurse. I love this career that I have chosen and am getting closer to being able to finally work in the profession. Next quarter is my preceptorship and then I'm done. When this journey started, they told us we were the class of Spring 2009. All I could think was that it was SO far away....and now, we're almost there. Bye for now. I'll try to update this Blog here and there but for the most part, it will be bare.

McCord AFB Volksmarch

We went down South yesterday to McCord AFB for a 10km (6.2 mile) walk. It was mom, dad, Eddie, Justin, and I on the walk.

They had static displays of Air Force airplanes that came out of this base.

This is the airplane that dad worked on when he was in the Air Force. It's an F-102.

There were lots of pretty sights on the base. It was a fun day. It started out a little foggy but quickly got sunny and hot. Then we sat down to a nice picnic after our walk.

My Young Man

It's fun as a mom to see the different stages that your children go through. The young man that my son turned into during the Summer has blindsided me. Don't get me wrong, I've always known that God had a huge plan for him because he's always pointing out to friends that they should treat others better if they're not. But, last year (6th grade), when the school year started, Justin and I had our share of butting heads because I thought that it was better for him to have a snack and then start right in on his homework. His plan was that he'd play for a little bit because he'd been in school all day and then do his homework. I let Justin try that for a few days and when he saw that he was too tired by the end of the day to do his homework, he agreed with my plan. But, it definitely didn't happen without some reminding and prodding :0)

This year has been a complete different story though. He comes straight in from school, has a little snack and then goes straight to his desk to do his homework. No arguments, no prodding, no nothing....Wow. My boy is becoming a young man.

We manned a station for our NW Tulip Trekkers (http://www.nwtrekkers.org/) group yesterday. It was a gorgeous, sunny day. We were at an old bunkhouse from the mid 1800's where the pioneers would go into it when the indians were threatening. There were 2 gun holes on each side of it. We love manning the stations because we meet lots of nice people from different walks of life and from different places. Dad came up to visit us and tooks lots of beautiful pictures with his SLR. Mom- The Master Gardener

I went this morning to Jennings Park in Marysville to visit mom and her part of the WSU garden. She went through the WSU Master Gardener program in the beginning of 2008. As part of her hours, she's been doing a medicinal garden there. I've seen lots of pictures but hadn't made it out to see her until today. Wow, the garden is beautiful. There's also a English Cottage garden, butterfly garden, food garden, rose garden, lily garden, feng sui garden, dalia garden, and I'm sure that I'm missing something but they're all beautiful with beautiful flowers, plants, etc. I can't wait until mom gets bored and turns to my yard :0)

Today's Justin's 1st day of 7th grade at Stanwood Middle School. William (our neighbor) came over at 6:00am to join him in the anxious feelings of what the day will bring for them. It sure brings back lots of memories of the excitement at the thought of seeing friends that you've missed over the Summer and nervousness also. In the mean time, I wait (as a mom) in anticipation for Justin to come off the bus and excitedly tell me about how great his day was.

Happy Labor Day!!

We celebrated at LCP with a BBQ and family. We played pinochle and also enjoyed the campfire all day. Mom and dad bought a tri tip steak from Costco that was SO yummy and it melted in your mouth. To give you an idea, it we could cut it with a butter knife. We didn’t head back home (and to the dogs) until 2:30am. On our way home, we were behind a drunk driver. While I was online with 911, she wound up in the ditch (flying through the ditch). God was definitely watching over her because she was able to get out of the ditch and start driving again. We followed her onto the freeway and Southbound on I-5 until Everett. We decided that we needed to get home (as it was 3:20am by this time) so we got off and turned around onto the freeway towards home. We were all a little disappointed that we never got to see the police get her off of the road before killing anyone. Although, as we got onto the freeway, there was the State Patrol heading South. Not too far behind her so we’re pretty confident that she was safely taken off the roads before any fatalities!!!

We spent the evening at LCP and had a fire. The fire sure felt wonderful since it's become "Winter" so fast this year. Then we played Pinochle until late. I didn't take that many pictures because my camera battery was almost dead (ooops). But, it's charged up now and ready for the rest of the weekend.

Eddie was on vacation this last week. It was so nice having him home and I already miss him today (his first day back to work).

We started out our week with a trip to Leavenworth. We were going to camp in the Kabin at KOA. We were almost to Leavenworth when the timing belt went out on the car. We waited on the side of the road for 6 hours total before the tow truck came to take my car to the Kia dealer in Everett. Partly because where we broke down, there was no cell phone service so Eddie had to walk/run for over an hour to finally get enough of a signal to call Dad and he came over to rescue us. So, we called KOA and cancelled our reservations and went back home to find out the prognosis of the car. We got our car back and fixed the next day though so that was nice.

The rest of the week, we went to various places that we've wanted to go to but never have found the time until now. We took one day and went to Fort Casey because Justin wanted to play around in the dark tunnels. We got our house half painted on the outside....during the sun breaks (it's been raining most of the vacation). Now we're praying for more sun so that we can finish it. We did some school shopping for Justin. I can't believe that that's right around the corner. Where did the Summer go? We took mom and dad on the walk on Snoqualmie Pass. It's an old railroad track (without the tracks). The trail is a total of 24 miles but we go through the 2 mile tunnel and then another approximately 2 miles and then turn around. The tunnel is fun (especially for the kids) because it gets so dark that you need a flashlight. There's a lot of walkers and bicyclists that go through it. Mom and dad came over yesterday and we learned how to play pinocle (my new favorite game) and then had a BBQ for dinner. I loved the card game so much that I wanted to play it longer than we did (we played until 9pm) but of course Eddie and Dad had work this morning. Next weekend though :0)

We went to Snoqualmie Pass and walked on the old railroad tracks that have been turned into a trail for bikes, walkers, and horses. We wound up walking 7.4 miles. It was a fun day.

They opened a new state park on Camano. It's been a long time coming. They opened up on June 21st and Eddie, Justin, and I almost forgot about it. Wow, I haven't posted since March? I'm a slacker, sorry!!! Well, I've made it through another quarter. Just 2 more quarters left. When I first started, Spring 2009 sounded SO far away and now it's right around the corner.

Wow, my last post was in December?! Well, I've been very busy with my 3rd quarter of Nursing school. I made it through though. I'm now done with my first year of school and could take the boards to get my LPN license. But, no, I like to torture myself too much :0) I'm continuing on into my second year of school so that I can get my RN.

I will update my site soon and add some pictures. We had Dad's 60th birthday on March 8th (but I didn't get any pictures, I need to keep it in my purse!!!) and Justin turned 12 on March 11th (I did get pictures of that and will post real soon).

I sure love and miss all of my friends and family!!! Please know that I think of you all constantly!!

Hi all!! Wow, haven't posted since August? I've been slipping. Well, I had my final today in Nursing 162 and got an 89/100 so am on cloud nine. I passed and next quarter will be in Nursing 163. I tell you what, I definitely had to step up the volume and study a lot more.

So, now that I've neglected my house for 3 months, yep, you guessed it. I will be up to my elbows in cleaning and dusting and decorating for Christmas for the next couple weeks.

I also learned that 3 months off (for summer) is hard to get back on track with studying and all. So I will be getting ahead on my reading the next couple of weeks.

My Boy

I just have no idea where the summer went!! I was always amazed in school how much my friends grew and how different they looked in as little time as over the summer vacation. Well, my son is no different!! I was looking at him the other day and I swear he's shot up a lot this summer...Mr. Long Legs :0) We even ran into his Kindergarten teacher last week while out on a walk at the State Park. She was amazed at how much he'd grown!!!

Our hike this weekend was at Dorothy Lake off of Money Creek on Highway 2. It was definitely a pretty steep hike with a pretty big elevation in altitude. We had a lot of fun though. It was mom, dad, Eddie, Justin, and I.

Saturday Heather Lake Hike

So since Auntie Pam had Saturday off, we all decided to hike Heather Lake again. This time sooner in the day so we didn't lose daylight like last time. So we got there at about 11:42am and got back down the mountain at 4:05pm. We had a blast and I wasn't winded. The lake was so beautiful. We packed a picnic and ate it at the lake. I tell you what though, we were starving when we got there to eat lunch :0) I wore my pedometer. We hiked a total of 7.9 miles. That's a new record for even Eddie, Justin, and I.

Well, we were going to go camping this weekend but because of the rain, we decided to cancel. We went out to Mexican at our favorite local restaurant, VeraCruz. So it was the 3 of us with Pam, Albert, Grandma Sue, Tiffani, and Taya. Then we still went to Camano State Park and walked the perimeter of it. Then we stayed until sunset. Because of the clouds, the water looked like foil with lots of colors. It was gorgeous. Came home around 9:15pm. It was a nice walk and good times...although, I forgot my camera.

Well on Wednesday Justin and I went and met Tammy, Kyle, and Caleb at Azteca. It was so great seeing them. The boys are getting big. Their visiting here for a couple weeks and then back home. Kyle gets to go to a diabetic summer camp. He should have lots of fun.

Well, it's been really hot here lately. We've been staying busy and cool by swimming. I've been staying up until 11 or so to keep the doors open to try to cool off the house at least a little. Today is my honey's birthday. He's 40. We celebrated last week with mom and dad. Justin and I were going to take him camping but because of the weather, we've decided to delay it. So, Justin and I are taking Eddie out to dinner of his choice and then as a family we'll go explore on a trail somewhere. We were thinking maybe Whatcom Falls. We'll see where we're led to tonight. And, of course, we have to get him his favorite, Black Licorice Ice Cream at Big Scoop sometime this weekend :0) I know, but it's all about him this weekend :0) The picture above shows what his tongue looks like once he's done. Summer's Here

Well, I don't know where the time goes. I can remember my mom and dad telling me when I was young not to wish my life away because when I got older, it would fly. Well, once again, they were right. I can't believe that I've been out for 2 weeks already. I've been busy, busy, busy since school ended. Mom and I took a sock class at Knot Just Yarn in Mount Vernon and learned how to knit socks. I finished my first pair and am working on another because it's so much fun and fast.

We've been taking family "adventures" every Friday. Two weeks ago we went up and found the hot springs off of Baker Lake Road. That was fun. Smelled a little like sulfur but not overwhelming at all. Then last Friday, we went to Coupeville and ended at Deception Pass at Sunset. Beautiful!!! Tonight is another adventure for Eddie's birthday.

Time for another update

Hi everyone,

Well, I've almost made it to the end of the quarter. Today was my last Clinical and Monday is my final. It's going to take me a while to catch up though :0) I'm so exhausted that I'm glad that it's the end of the quarter. I'm definitely sleeping good when my head hits the pillow. I loved my clinical and loved working in the long term care center. Well, my studying is not done yet. So I'd better go. Hope to see you all soon.

Re: School

I figured that it was probably time to update things on school. We go to Clinicals next week. This quarter is just flying by. Of course, when your head is in the books all the time, it's probably going to happen. I'm scheduled to go to LifeCare in Mount Vernon. We usually go on Thursdays and Fridays starting next week. We practiced catheters last week. I asked Eddie or Justin if I could practice on them (mostly just the words of course and what to say, etc.). Justin just loves to be the patient while I'm practicing my speal so he was my patient. I came in the room and told him that the doctor had ordered him to have a catheter and then asked him if he'd had one before. She told me no and then I proceded to tell him what it was (like a real patient :0) ). For some reason, he decided that he didn't want to be the patient anymore :0) (And I didn't even have a catheter with me). Love to everyone. I love and miss you all. The way time's flying though, I'll see you soon.

Learning Injections

It's the 3rd week of class and we're learning how to give injections. We practiced on hot dogs to give intradermal shots (TB). The other lady with me is my friend, Teresa. She lives in Stanwood so we're carpooling. It's been nice with the price of gas and also for the company. I've been having so much fun in class so far!!! I'm loving it and our class has really good people in it. I got an 88% on my first test. It was pretty easy, but I made dumb mistakes. Surprisingly though, most of the people didn't pass.

First week of School

My first day of school was on Tuesday. We had lecture on Tuesday and Wednesday and then today we had lab all day. I now know how to do your BP. By the end of the day, I felt so good about all that I learned and can do. I'm loving it. I'm just on cloud 9...incase you can't tell :0) I've been studying every day from the time I get home from school until 9....Love to all my friends and family!!!

And the Family Birthday dinner on his birthday

Justin chose our favorite local Mexican Restaurant for his birthday dinner on the 11th. Then we went back home for opening of presents. He made out as usual. He got a Bible, a Spartan sweatshirt, 11 pieces of candy and gum, Tech Deck skateboards, a bottle holder for his bike, 2 XBox games, and $71 cash (Justin, I need a loan please :0) ). Of course the best part is the family time!!!

We went to The Old Spaghetti Factory in Lynnwood for Dad's birthday dinner. Very yummy since they now have Whole Wheat Pasta. Dad's birthday was March 8th, but I didn't get to post this until later because I've been sick. The picture is from Justin's birthday party too. I forgot my camera during Dad's celebration.

Weird Weather this year

Our weather has been so weird this year. We've gotten a little of everything. Yesterday was SO beautiful!!! I had my back door open all morning and afternoon. The news said that in some places it got up to the 70's. Now this morning, it's overcast and raining everywhere.

Tonight is a "family" information session for the nursing program at the college. Mom, Dad, Eddie, Justin, and I will be there tonight. It's set up to let the family know what to expect. Like, not to expect to see me much :0) Help out around the house more...ie. dinners, dishes, house work, etc. My plan is to take a break from studying to fix dinner and then back to studying after dinner. Then to set aside Sundays as our family days. I'm sure for the most part it should be no problem.

And to all my friends....just know that I love ya but will probably not see you too much as my "free" time will go to my family.

I can't believe how fast the time has gone by since November when I found out that I got into Spring quarter Nursing!!!

I have Women's Retreat with my church this weekend. I'm excited to go. I've never gone before because of it being Justin's birthday weekend but I'll be home on his birthday. Can you believe that Justin will be 11 on Sunday? His Golden birthday...11 on the 11th. What a big boy!! They grow way too fast. He had his "well-check" appt yesterday and got his shot for going into 6th grade and also a flu shot (for both of us). He's 59" and 82lbs. Skinny and tall just like his Dad....and healthy!! Probably from all the bike riding and skateboarding!!

Snow, it's not Spring-time yet

Well, just when we were having milder weather and have quite a few days with sun....God reminds us that it's still Winter. We got a load of snow yesterday and it's still snowing a little today...but I do see blue sky too!!!

Bicycling Fun

Eddie and Justin took me on a bike ride to a park in Shohomish that is for bikes, hikers, and horses. It was fun except there were too much mudd puddles for me. I'd like to go back in the Summer time. We rode for 5 miles at this park. Then Eddie took us to the Centennial Trail on the Snohomish end and we rode for another 6 miles. It was a lot of fun!!! The day was SO warm and gorgeous!!! Made us feel like Spring was coming...

Eagle Fest

The Eagle Fest in Concrete was so much fun, as usual. We manned a station until 11:00am. They have the best cinnamon rolls that the local bakery bakes and Justin's enjoying one. Mom and dad met us there and we walked. We did the 11K (6.2 miles) walk. We saw 1 eagle but it was so far away that it wouldn't have turned out in the picture. We took a slight detour and did a little more than that (ok, quite a lot more than that) because the ribbons were taken down by someone. We knew we weren't going the right way when we came to this marsh :0) Once we got on track, we were almost done (thank God because we were beat). Then we went to dinner and off to Auntie Pam's for her 40th birthday party.

I made it through my nursing intake. It was very inspiring and helped to answer a lot of questions that I had on what to expect. I'm getting excited. Mom and I were together today for our weekly girl time. It's been a nice day. I feel great with how much I've gotten accomplished. I went and got my drug test out of the way (like I have anything to worry about). But they do make you feel like a criminal. They had me lock up my purse, couldn't flush the toilet, or wash my hands until she said that it was ok. I've gotten all my paperwork turned in and have contacted the man about getting my CPR class out of the way. I'm on my way!!

We went to find Eagles along the Skagit River. We did see some but my camera doesn't get close enough for the pictures to be good ones. Dad needs to get his SLR camera :0)
